The Rescue House - Encinitas Pet Shelter

The Rescue House

The Rescue House is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization dedicated to assisting cats through its rescue, foster and adoption activities. We find loving homes for unwanted, abandoned, homeless and abused cats. We open our arms to socialized, people-friendly cats that need assistance, regardless of age and often regardless of handicap. We find good homes for every cat that we take in - we are a true no-kill cat rescue organization.

Adoption Process

If you would like to visit one (or more) of our adoptable cats, please email WEBCAT@rescuehouse.org for the location of the adoption center where that cat currently resides. Please also email us if you have a question about a specific cat. All prospective adopters will be asked to complete an adoption application (available at our adoption centers) and to speak with an adoption counselor. Unless a special adoption event is in progress, our counselors conduct interviews by phone within 48 hours of receiving your application. Applications are processed on a case-by-case basis as every cat, every person, every home is different - we strive to ensure the best match for all parties. Adoptive parents will receive a packet containing great information about cat guardianship, health, food, etc.. At the minimum, each of our cats has already been tested for feline leukemia, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, treated for fleas and microchipped, so your initial expenses for your cats’ health needs have already been taken care of. All that is left for you to do is to love and cherish your new family member(s) and allow them time to adjust!
