The Maggie Society Rescue, Rehabilitation, & Education is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Wilson, North Carolina dedicated to rescuing homeless, neglected and abandoned dogs. Our fabulous fosters provide dogs and pups with loving temporary homes where they learn basic house manners and how to be an integrated part of the family. Our dedicated volunteers work to find well-matched, carefully screened homes, while other volunteers help with transports that send our dogs to their forever homes with our northern partner rescue groups. We also serve as a resource for our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter and other essential vetting, positive behavior training, good nutrition and how dog owners can provide a quality life and maintain good mental and emotional health as well as physical health. With our committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, and northern partner rescues, we are able to save the lives hundreds of dogs every year.
Application Review Process - Once we receive your application, we will review it to see if you meet our adoption criteria. Adoption Agreement - After your application has been approved and you have chosen your new family member, you will be required sign an adoption agreement before we can finalize your adoption. Adoption agreements are usually done through DocuSign a day prior to the adoption. On the actual adoption day, the counselor will review specifics of the contract and answer any questions that you may have. Adoption Fees - All adoptions are $300 which can be paid via cash or check at the time of adoption. It can also be paid online through the donation button on the website. THE ADOPTION FEE IS NON-REFUNDABLE. About the Adoption Fees - The Adoption fee is a NONREFUNDABLE fee given to The Maggie Society so that we may continue our mission of saving dogs. If the time comes that an adopter can no longer care for the dog, it is understood that NO REFUND of adoption fees will be given and that the dog must be returned to The Maggie Society. Adoption Day - When you come to pick up your dog, all adoption paperwork will be signed. You will be required to bring payment at that time. Please also note that you must come with an appropriately-sized collar, pet-id tag with your name and contact information on it, British Lead/Slip Lead w/guard leash, and a crate or seatbelt to secure your pup while traveling. The adoption counselor will review veterinary records. The Maggie Society provides the adopter with two copies of records; one for the vet and one for the new owner. Adoption Thread - We use Facebook Messenger to create a thread of communication between the Maggie Society, the adopter, the foster, and the adoption counselor. This allows adopters to ask questions and get support while you and your new pup adapt to life together. As an added bonus, we love getting pupdates and photos of our Maggie Alumni and hope that you will stay in touch! For those not on Messenger, we use text groups for the same purpose.
