The Humane Society of Jefferson County (HSJCWA) was incorporated in 2008 by caring Jefferson County citizens to be prepared to take the reins from the County. In 2012 we took responsibility from the sheriff’s department and the county to operate the shelter. In the ten years that HSJCWA has operated the shelter we have found homes for 2992 cats and dogs and returned 1642 pets to their grateful owners. (01/01/2012 - 01/01/2022). We are the only open admission animal shelter in Jefferson County, Washington. HSJCWA is the licensing agency for all dogs in our county. Dog licensing is available online or by mail. It is the law that all dogs over 6 months old be licensed. We also offer humane trap rentals and cremation services too.
The first step towards adoption is to submit an adoption application for the animal you are interested in. Our staff reviews these applications, and then contacts the party they agree appears to be the most appropriate match for that cat/dog to schedule a “meet and greet” here at our facility. All applicants will be notified by staff members if they are selected to meet a cat/dog, or when a cat/dog they have applied for has been adopted by another party. Applications are not “first come, first served,” but instead “first most suitable home, first served.” We encourage you to click on each animal’s picture, read their profile on Petfinder, and then apply for an animal as soon as possible if you feel they’re a match for you! We commonly receive many applications for the same animal, and at times we realize this may cause disappointment for applicants. We ask for your patience and understanding.
