We are a nonprofit, 501(c)(3). We are not selective about the breed of dog we help. We consider the lives of all breeds to be equal. The labor force behind our mission is 100% volunteer staffed. We save dogs from shelters as well as from owners who cannot care for their dogs any longer. The dogs we take in are placed in loving foster homes until they find their forever home. We do not have a brick and mortar facility; we are 100% foster-based including loving fospice for terminally ill dogs. We work to support the local community by providing education on care and treatment of dogs, promoting safe handling, the importance of vaccinations, heartworm prevention, advocating and providing financial assistance to those in need for spay and neutering. We arrange for community outreach by building kennels and outdoor shelters to get dogs off chains.
Once you submit an application: 1. Application Receipt Confirmation - You will receive email confirmation that the application has been received. The email will include points of contact for questions about the specific dog you are interested and for questions about the adoption process in general. If you haven’t received this email within 48 hours of submitting your application, please check your Spam folder. 2. Background Check - We will start processing your application by first doing a background check. 3. Reference Checks - If you do not currently have any pets, we will call your personal references. 4. Phone Interview - You will then be contacted by one of The Furever Project’s Team to set up a phone interview. The phone interview is designed to make sure the dog you are interested in is a good fit for you or help identify possible good matches if you have not applied with a particular dog in mind. During the phone interview you can expect to discuss things like interest, lifestyle, pet ownership experience, routine for your new dog, etc. 5. Introductions - If it seems from the phone interview that the dog you have applied for is a good fit, a meet and greet will be arranged. This meeting will usually take place at a park or other public area, and will include your current dog or dogs, if there are any. All members of the family must be present during this introduction. 6. Home Visit - If the meet and greet is a success, the next step is a home visit. The home visit is designed to ensure the suitability of the home for a new dog, and to make sure that the resident dog and the Furever Project dog also get along on the resident’s dog territory. If there are concerns due to COVID-19 and there are no resident dogs or cats, the home visit may be conducted virtually. 7. Finalize the Adoption - CONGRATULATIONS!! You’ve successfully completed all the steps, and now you are ready to finalize the adoption. Simply electronically sign the adoption contract, submit the application fee (structured based on the dog’s age and outlined below) and set a pick-up date with your new furry family member’s foster family.
