Alma Tails of Hope is a no kill, volunteer/foster based 501(c).3 animal rescue organization. Our mission is to rescue abandoned, neglected and stray companion animals. We work to secure a better life for them in loving and forever homes. Our animals often come into our rescue through other shelters or animal rescue organizations, as strays, or owner surrenders from people in our local communities. Upon arrival, animals will be given age appropriate vaccines, dewormer, microchipping, will be spayed/neutered, and a vet examination. We provide medical care and a safe, comfortable living environment for our rescues to enjoy while they await their forever home. To ensure all of our animals are placed in the right loving homes, we adhere to an adoption process which may come with a home visit if necessary. Being an all volunteer foster based non-profit animal rescue we rely on volunteers/fosters to help out and donations from our supporters and followers to fund our organization.
Once an animal is given an all clear from the veterinarian and the foster family is comfortable with knowing what a good fit for their animals would be, it is time to move onto the next step in their journey and be posted as available to the public! It is also at this time that foster families are given the first opportunity to adopt their fostered animals before they are released for public adoption applications. Our available animals are then posted on our rescue’s Facebook page, as well as Petfinder.com for the public to view. At this point is when we hope the adoption applications come flooding in! Our ‘Adoption Coordinators’ take these applications and complete background checks, call references, verify identities and addresses, and contact landlords if applicable. They then reach out to the applicants themselves for any necessary files to complete the application – copy of Drivers License, veterinary records, etc. Approved applications are then forwarded to our foster families to do follow up phone interviews to try and find the best fit for their animal. This is the lengthiest part of our adoption process as we want to make sure we have the best fitting applicant for each of our animals! After the interviews, foster families will set up meet and greets with the potential new families to be able to meet their potential new family member. On adoption day, Alma Tails of Hope asks that you bring your own collar/harness and leash (for a dog) and/or a carrier (for a cat/small dog) for your new family member. You do have the option of taking the collar/harness and leash that Alma Tails of Hope has provided for your dog during their time in the rescue, but please be advised a fee of $20 will be added onto your animals adoption fee. Cats will not be allowed to go home if a carrier is not brought with!
