Susieq Dog Resq - Conesus Pet Shelter

Susieq Dog Resq

SusieQ Dog ResQ has a mission to rescue needy and unwanted dogs and keep them in our home until a home of their own can be found. The rescue was started in 2006 after volunteering to do animal rescue in New Orleans as a result of Hurricane Katrina. It was there I met a little puppy that was found in the rubble on the streets and I couldn't leave without her. Upon returning home I knew that saving animals was what I wanted to do with the rest of my life and my husband agreed to help. We became a 501c3 not-for-profit corporation in 2007 and have found homes for many dogs, puppies, cats, kittens and even a few ducks (and a swan!!!). Originally named Another Chance Rescue Ranch we changed our name to SusieQ Dog ResQ in 2012, but our mission hasn't changed. Our most important goal is to save lives and find the best possible homes for the animals. We work very hard to accomplish this. We don't have a facility. All of our rescues live with us like one of the family until their own home is found. We have met so many sweet, gracious, deserving pets over the years. We try to give back the love and trust they put in us by finding them a better life than where they came from. I have fallen in love with my FOSTER FURRIES over the years and although it is always hard to let them go, just thinking of the next one needing to be saved helps me continue. Our foster animals are only a small portion of the many that need saving from shelters, euthanization, puppy mills, and uncaring owners. Pet overpopulation is a huge worldwide problem. Some people may say one person can’t make a difference but I know that we at SusieQ Dog ResQ, along with our adopters and volunteers, have made a difference to many animals now enjoying life in a loving family.

Adoption Process

1. Complete and submit the application - but before you do, please read the entire adoption procedure. 2. We will review your application, contact your references and contact your vet's office with questions about your previous pets' health care. When reviewing applications, it is not on a "first come first served basis" - we want to make sure that our pets will find a family they fit with, and our families will find a pet that fits with them. Please be patient as it may take awhile to get back to you. 3. If we feel that the pet that you are interested in would be a good fit for you, we will then invite you to schedule an interview with the pet in our home, and we ask that all family members be present. Our main goal is the right pet for the family and even if we feel the particular pet you are interested in isn't a right fit we may make suggestions as to a better fitting pet. 4. You get to meet the pet and any questions or concerns are addressed at this time. 5. If the initial meeting goes well and both parties want to proceed, we will get back to you to schedule a home visit. This is to see where the living area will be, how the toileting needs will be met, and make sure the adopting family is ready to make the commitment to bring this new member into their family and give it the love and care it will need for the rest of its life. 6. The last step is to either take the pet into your home at that time or schedule a future date to pick up the pet at our home, sign a contract with us concerning the pets future needs and continual well-being, and finally pay the adoption fee.
