Our name is Steven’s Sanctuary- in honor of our spunky, iconic cat Steven, who we tragically lost in March 2017. It all started out as a bit of a joke amongst our family, once we started fostering and were introduced to the rescue scene, we created this picture perfect image of “Steven’s Sanctuary” in our head, and we would save as many cats as we could. We never expected to take it further than the little dream that we had made up in our heads, but after a long wait and a lengthy application process, in March 2019, we finally got approval for our 501(c)3 non-profit. We were official. Things didn’t kick start until May 2019, when a few special kitties needed a place to go. We have rescued over 20 animals so far, and we hope to keep that number climbing! We “specialize” in those who need a little more help than others, whether its extra socialization, eye enucleations, or amputations. We are completely volunteer and foster-based, and we run solely off donations and public support. THANK YOU to our volunteers who keep Steven’s Sanctuary running!
Step 1: Research the animal that you are interested in adopting. We take several animals that require special lifestyles so we must ensure they are going to optimal homes. Step 2: Complete an Adoption Application. The application is how you can tell us about yourself, the home you can provide to our animals, and which animal you are interested in. Please complete the application in its entirety, and please use full sentences. Adoption Requirements: Must be 18 to apply. If renting an apartment, you will need to provide the contact info for your landlord so we can verify that you are allowed to own a cat or dog. All dogs will need to have a home visit so we can verify it is a safe and suitable environment for that dog's needs. All current animals will need to be current on vetting / vaccines. A fenced in yard is not required to adopt, but it is highly suggested. All cats will be indoor only. No outdoor or indoor/outdoor cats. Step 3: Home Check / Meet and Greet. We will set up a time with you to ensure that you are providing the best home possible for your new family member. Dogs will have to meet every other dog in the household. Cats do not have to meet the other cats in the home. Step 4: Adoption. If the home check goes well, then it is time to finalize the adoption! In most cases the cat or dog will be able to stay with you directly after the home check.
