The St. Joseph County Animal Control provides a variety of enforcement, educational, and animal disposition services including dog licensing, cruelty and complaint investigation and animal adoption. Animal Control staff enforce the Animal Control Ordinance as adopted by the Board of Commissioners. The St. Joseph County Animal Ordinance contains specific provisions and regulations for Dog Licensing, Kennel Licensing, Animal Impoundment, Animal Restraint, Animal Care, Wild/Exotic Animal Permits and Ownership, and other provisions and regulations. The city, village or township where you live may have its own ordinance that outlines additional provisions and regulations that expand upon the St. Joseph County Animal regulations. The enforcement of regulations set by entities other than the St. Joseph County Animal Control may not be performed by the St. Joseph County Animal Control.

Bear Creek Refuge HELPING THE HELPLESS, LOVING THE LOST Bear Creek refuge, initially a family home and wildlife refuge, has also become a refuge for pets in need for over 30 years. Our pets are rescued from the streets, from kind people who have assisted them, and those relinquished by their families who can no longer care for them.

Pet Haven is a foster care, adoption, placement organization for homeless and/or unwanted pets. Pet Haven is a registered Non-Profit Organization. This unique and innovative program does not have a permanent facility. Instead, it works out of volunteer foster homes until permanent homes can be found. Unlike a pet store, 75% of the animals are mixes and not pure breeds.
