St. Clair County Animal Services oversees Animal Control and Dr. Tom Amlung Pet Adoption Center. Animal Control is responsible for enforcing Illinois State Statutes and St. Clair County Ordinances pertaining to dogs and cats; impounding animals found to be in violation of those laws; investigating Bite incidents; investigating complaints of inhumane treatment of companion pets. The Animal Control Center is the holding facility for stray and surrendered companion pets in St. Clair County. Dr. Tom Amlung Adoption Center places pets from Animal Control in new homes. All pets are rabies vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and microchipped prior to adoption.
Adoption fees are $95.00 for dogs and $70.00 for cats. Canine and Feline Adoptions include spay/neuter, rabies vaccination and registration, and microchip. A $25.00 refundable deposit is required with your application. This will insure the pet you have selected will not be shown for 72 hours. The deposit also insures your application will be reviewed, approved or denied, in 72 hours. If your application is approved you will be required to finalize the adoption agreement by paying the remainder of the adoption fee, $70.00 for dogs and $45.00 for cats within the 72 hours. If your application is denied your deposit will be refunded in full. If the prospective adopter decides not to finalize the adoption within 72 hours and notifies the Adoption Center of their intent, the deposit will be refunded.
