The Office of Animal Control’s mission is to provide a service to the people by protecting the animals of St. Charles Parish, to secure a safe environment for all homeless creatures and to improve the quality of life for all animals. The Office of Animal Control works together with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office to enforce animal law and case investigations. Response to service ranges from animal ordinance violations to animal wellness checks. Animal control officers are available for emergency calls at all times. Protecting people from animals and animals from people is paramount to ensure public health and safety for our residents and animals. In addition to animal control, the office serves as an animal shelter and adoption agency for homeless pets. All homeless pets that are behaviorally and medically sound can be adopted through local and national means. The Office of Animal Control strives to continuously educate children and adults in our community on humane and progressive care of animals.
St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter adopts pets through a fee of $80 for dogs and $80 for cats (debit card, credit card or money order purchase), which includes the cost for age appropriate vaccines, rabies vaccination, deworming, spaying or neutering, flea and tick control and microchipping. Potential adopters will be required to complete a St. Charles Parish Pet Adoption Application. Adopters will also be required to present a driver's license as a form of identification. The completed forms will be thoroughly reviewed by the shelter staff before approval. After approval, the new owner will be given the health record of the animal, rabies tag, microchip tag, a copy of the adoption certificate, information from the veterinarian regarding care of the pet and a prescription for heartworn, flea or tick prevention (if applicable).
