Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation - Hampton Bays Pet Shelter

Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation

The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that relies on the generosity of our donors and volunteers to care for the homeless animals in our community, and place them in loving “forever homes.” The number of animals in need of our help is growing every day. The overpopulation of pets on Long Island is a major issue and sadly more amazing animals are ending up homeless. Whether caring for strays found wandering the streets, rescuing neglected and abandoned animals, or saving dogs from the horrors of the puppy mill industry, the shelter is a safe haven for all animals and for some, the last resort. Without SASF, these animals would not be able to survive. The shelter provides a stepping stone for animals to find loving homes. It offers them housing, food, medical treatment, training, and rehabilitation when necessary. Your support makes all of this possible and together we can help save more lives!

Adoption Process

We have so many great pets who are just waiting to meet you. Our available pets are uploaded daily to our website. Visit our adoption center any day of the week. We are open every day from 10 am to 5 pm. We encourage you to spend time getting to know prospective pets. Our adoption coordinators can arrange meet and greets, kennel tours and dog to dog interactions. We will assist you through the adoption process in order to find your perfect pet match. You can also visit our pets during their Playgroups. Call 631) 728-PETS (7387) for schedule Playgroup times. Our process begins with an adoption application/survey and an interview with one of our adoption coordinators. To speed up the process just fill out an application and let the pet matching making begin! We will continue to support you and your pet at home with additional support from our adoption and training teams. Our kit for adopters is full of information that can make your pet’s transition from the shelter to your home as stress-free as possible - along with tips to keep your pet happy and healthy. (online link) You’ll also learn about ways you and your pet can use the services at SASF - such as our Wellness Clinic and dog training courses. SASF strives to provide our adopters and our pets with the best possible match for them both. Our adoption process is designed to ensure that our pets get placed with the most appropriate home. A responsible adoption program is developed and implemented with every adoption. SASF has developed criteria for approved adopters and for unsuitable adopters. Adoption coordinators make judgments based on SASF trainer’s temperament-testing procedures to ensure that animals are “fit” for adoption and to facilitate the best possible match between adopters and animals. Adopters will sign a contract under which they agree to provide a specified level of care for their new pet. We require that our dogs live inside with their families and receive adequate exercise and attention. We prefer that our cats live safely inside only in their new homes useless cat is part of our Barn Cat or Advo-Cat Program. A prospective adopter’s current pet(s) must be current on their veterinary care. The current pet(s) must also have a consistent history of annual vet care. All of our available pets are spayed/neutered, current on vaccines and microchipped.
