Our mission, first and foremost, is to provide assistance to all the abandoned and forgotten (feral) cats throughout the greater Fredericksburg, Virginia area, including the counties of Stafford and Spotsylvania. Shadow Cat Advocates is a community resource, not a rescue. We will not remove feral cats from your property or take owner surrendered cats. We will provide you the tools and support you need to effectively and humanely manage feral cats.
If you see a cat you are interested in adopting, please fill out the Adoption Application. After your application is received, we will check with your current vet to make sure your current or former pets were given shots and vaccines recommended. We will set up a time for you to visit the cat you are interested in and help you determine whether it is a good match for your family. We generally recommend that kittens be adopted in pairs as they are so energetic and may get lonely and destructive if left on their own for too long. With a sibling to keep him/her company, that can be avoided. If the application is approved, we will bring your new family member to you, show you how to set up a “safe room” for a few days to acclimate your cat to it new home, and supply you with some helpful information. Our adoption fee is $135 and includes testing, de-worming, vaccines appropriate for the age of the cat, microchip and spay/neuter if old enough.
