When our six founders met a few years ago, they discovered they shared a passion for rescuing animals. Then they were fosters, case managers, event coordinators, matchmakers, shelter volunteers, and foster and intake coordinators. They became fast friends and started us on our passion project. We are the Squishy Face Crew! The SFC is organized around connecting foster families and adopters in the Fredericksburg area and beyond with dogs and cats who have found themselves in a shelter. Virginia is a regional leader in the no-kill movement, with a live release rate of 78%, but we have a long way to go to reach the state goal of “No-Kill 2020” and the national goal of “No-Kill 2025.” We hope to play a role in helping the state achieve a 90% live release rate by transferring in animals from under served county shelters and other rescues that work directly with these shelters and finding them homes in our area. We are a foster-based rescue, which means that we do not maintain a physical shelter and all animals in our care remain in foster homes until they are adopted. The SFC is committed to open, low-barrier adoptions, which means that in most cases, our pets can be adopted directly from the foster parent or at an adoption event after a meet-and-greet to ensure they are a good fit for your family. We believe that removing barriers to adoption is truly lifesaving and enables us to help more animals that have found themselves without a home. We are a 501c3 organization as of July 2019.
Find your match - Our adoptable animals are listed on our website, social media pages, and are advertised locally by their foster parents. Browse our pages and find the perfect fit for your family! Apply - Adoption applications are located on each animal’s profile page. We remove the pet from the website once they have reached their quota of viable applications. Meet + Greet - Our adoptions team will get in touch with you to answer your questions about our pets and set up a meet and greet. If you have resident dogs, we require that they attend the meet and greet with you. In most cases, we offer same-day adoptions for medically ready animals.
