Safari - Special Animal Friends And Rescue, Inc.

Special Animal Friends and Rescue, Inc, is a non-profit, no-kill organization formed to rescue, protect and re-home dogs. Our focus is on rescuing dogs from the streets, from shelters, and from homes where they are unwanted, and placing them into a foster home until we can find them the perfect family to adopt them. We believe every dog deserves a loving forever home.

Adoption Process

1. Applications are only accepted in person at adoption events. Complete the application (both sides) – ALL questions must be completed. Missing information will halt the review process. 2. At least one Adoption Coordinator will review your applications with you and ask for additional details in several areas. 3. Applications are not approved at the event, nor are any adoptions completed the same day. Applications will be reviewed by the Adoption Approval Committee and the Board. 4. Renters must provide a copy of their lease or written documentation from their landlord showing information regarding any animal stipulations on their lease. Applications requiring this documentation will not be reviewed until documentation is received. 5. Vet checks will be performed before application approval. If you have used multiple vets in the last couple years, please list them all. 6. Once an application is approved for a home visit, it will be assigned to a Foster Coordinator who will contact the applicant to schedule this. All family members and pets must be present for the home visit. Approval for a home visit does not guarantee approval for the adoption. If approval is given after the home visit, the animal may be placed in your home as a foster dog until the next adoption event, where the adoption will be finalized. We will only contact the applicants who have been approved for a home visit. 7. Once final approval is granted, an adoption date and time will be set. If there are two (2) applicants, both need to be present for the adoption. Once the adoption is scheduled, we ask that you only cancel in the event of an emergency. If the scheduled adoption time is missed a second time, we will require the animal be returned to SAFARI. 8. All SAFARI dogs are adopted out with an obedience contract. This is a contractual obligation to complete one or more (based on breed and temperament of the dog) obedience course and provide documentation to SAFARI that said course(s) were completed by the scheduled date. 9. Puppies under 6 months of age are adopted out with a sterilization clause in the contract requiring sterilization by six (6) months of age. Documentation must be provided to SAFARI (a copy of the receipt or a Sterilization Certificate from the veterinarian). 10. Please understand, our process is lengthy, but it is in place to help us, to the best of our ability, provide the best possible home for each of our animals. Their well-being is our primary concern. We always look to achieve a great fit between the pet and the family. If you are not chosen, it is not necessarily that your application was not approved; we often have multiple qualified applicants for a particular dog. Please see our website or our Facebook for other dogs we have available for adoption. Please contact us via email to see if your application was approved if you are interested in being considered for another one of our dogs. 11. Please be patient with the process. We try to be very thorough and all of our volunteers are just that, volunteers. They all have full time jobs and families and in many cases a foster dog or two. 12. Required Documentation can be emailed to info@safarianimalrescue.org or Faxed to (734) 666-0116
