Rhode Island Parrot Rescue is the only 501(c)3 non profit rescue in the state of Rhode Island to focus exclusively on rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing exotic birds to qualified homes for adoption. A small, independent rescue, our team of dedicated volunteers provide daily care for each bird in our flock. This includes a well-balanced pelleted diet, fresh water, fruits and vegetables, interaction and training in a clean, safe environment.
When your information is submitted it will be sent to an adoption coordinator, who will contact you to conduct a phone interview and determine if a parrot is the right fit for your lifestyle. We will respond to your application via email to schedule a good time for the phone interview. If the telephone interview determines that a parrot might be a good fit for you, we will schedule your first visit to the rescue. During your first visit to our facility in Warwick, RI, you will receive the grand tour and meet the flock. Next, we will conduct a home visit to ensure that the parrot will be living in a safe and clean environment. (There is a $35.00 travel fee to cover travel expenses for anyone living more than 30 miles from the rescue.) Finally, we will schedule bonding visits at our facility in Warwick, RI. During these visits, you will interact with the birds until you find one that connects with you. Connecting or bonding may take many visits over the course of a few weeks or a few months. It depends on you and the parrot. We want to see a good match between our applicant and the parrot. In most cases the parrot will choose you and that makes for the most successful match. We will also make recommendations for you to attend online classes if we feel you need more time or information. All of these steps are put in place to help YOU and the bird live a happy, healthy life together for many years to come.
