Rescue One is a state-licensed, 501(c)(3), foster-based rescue located in Springfield, MO. All of the animals in our care live in foster homes until a forever home can be found. We rescue without regard to breed, age, or ease of placement. Our mission is not only to rescue animals in need, but to also educate the public on responsible pet ownership and help provide low cost spay/neuter for those in need of assistance. Since forming in 2013, Rescue One has helped saved thousands of animals. Dogs find their way to us for many reasons: some are owner surrenders, some are strays, some dogs are found abandoned, left to fend for themselves in vacant homes, open fields, or on the side of the road, and many are pulled from area kill shelters. Besides giving love and socialization to the animals, all will receive necessary medical care, required vaccinations, and be spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Our goal is to place animals in responsible, committed homes, and considerable care will be taken to find good matches for both the animals and the adopters.
The adoption process begins when you complete an online Adoption Application, naming either one or a few of our available dogs, or providing a description of the type of dog you hope to adopt. Completing an application does not restrict you to a specific dog, nor does it obligate you to adopt. Once Rescue One has received your application and determined if you are a good match for the requested dog, a representative from our adoption team will contact you to go over our process in its entirety, and give you the foster parent’s contact information, so you may call and arrange a meet-and-greet with the dog. If you believe it is the perfect fit, we ask that you take the dog home for a 7-day trial. You will give the adoption fee to the foster parent to hold during this time. Our adoption fees are: Dogs 7 years and older: $75, Dogs 6 years and younger: $150. We feel that it takes more than a day to verify a perfect fit for your home. During the week you will be able to make sure the dog interacts well with your family, current pets, and your lifestyle. A home check will be completed before the dog is placed in your home. If after your week, you decide you would like to adopt, we will complete the adoption at that time. If you live outside the state of Missouri, and don’t have a current veterinary reference, we will ask that you establish one within two weeks of adoption and provide proof that you have done so. All of the dogs will be spayed/neutered, receive all appropriate vaccinations, be de-wormed, and heart worm tested (over 6 months of age) prior to adoption. Dogs will only be adopted to indoor homes, no exceptions. Our job is to find each of our dogs the right home. Rejected applications are not necessarily a reflection on the applicant’s home, but rather based on the determination that the home is not the right match.
