We are a 501c3 rescue that focuses on pulling dogs on death row from high kill shelters. We are a foster-based care for life rescue. The mission of Project Hope Animal Rescue is to reduce the needless suffering of animals through educational and financial assistance programs designed to help reduce the overpopulation of companion animals. Project Hope will also rescue unwanted animals with the goal of placing them into loving homes. For those animals for which adoption is not possible, we will provide a lifetime of loving care.
As we get applications for adoption we generally follow this process (although, not always in this order): Receive application; Contact Veterinarian for Reference (Please contact your vet and give permission to Project Hope Animal Rescue calling in for a reference check); Contact Applicant; Have a home visit; Have a meet-and-greet with your whole family to meet the dog. Here is where communication can be missed.... if there is more than one applicant that is applying for a particular dog, we try to set meet and greets in the order in which the applicants seem best fit for that particular dog. This does NOT mean that the first meet and greet will be the adopter--if it is not a good fit with that rescue dog, we move to the next on the list. We HAVE to focus on what is best for the dog, or they are no better off than they were before rescue. This is not always comfortable to hear, but please understand we only want what is best for the dog. If your application is approved, we already know you will make a great adopter..it may just be with a different dog. If you are the first meet and greet for a dog, you are NOT obligated to adopt either. If your meet and greet goes well and it's a fit, you may adopt on the spot, by completing the adoption contract and paying the adoption fee. We follow up and offer help/support for transitioning rescue dogs into their new family. If your meet and greet does not go well, your application and pre-approval still stands, and you go in the line up for the next rescue dog to meet and greet, and so on.
