PAWS (Powell Animal Welfare Society) is an all-volunteer, all foster-based dog rescue serving the Columbus, Ohio area. Our volunteers rescue, provide veterinary care and find loving homes for abused, neglected and/or stray dogs from overpopulated shelters in Ohio and neighboring states. PAWS strives to eliminate the needless euthanasia of homeless animals, one dog, one adopter at a time. We are in need of more loving foster homes for homeless dogs. PAWS can only save a dog if we have a foster home to care for it since we have NO kennel. Each foster home provides shelter and care, while PAWS provides food, veterinary care (including spay/neuter) and all necessary supplies such as crates, bowls, leashes, collars, etc. Adoptable PAWS dogs are examined by a veterinarian, spayed/neutered, vaccinated according to our veterinarian’s guidelines, dewormed/fecal tested, and given flea and tick medication and heartworm preventative. Our adoption fee is $250.
You must be 21 years of age. You must be willing to make a ten- to twenty-year commitment to the dog. We do not adopt out dogs as gifts. All dogs will be INDOOR companions. You must have a secure fenced yard or be committed to multiple daily leash walks in all kinds of weather (snow, heat, ice, pouring rain, etc.). If you are living in a rental property you must provide written proof of landlord approval and payment of any pet deposit. All current pets in the household MUST be spayed/neutered and current on vaccinations. Veterinarian references are verified. Our adoption contract legally binds you to provide the dog with proper veterinary care, including a yearly wellness exam, up-to-date required vaccinations and emergency care if necessary. You will also keep the dog on monthly heartworm prevention. Our adoption process intentionally takes several steps and cannot be completed in one day. Expect this process to take 1-2 weeks from the time you submit an application to the time the dog will be in your home. We reserve the right to deny an application without explanation.

The animals that were being euthanized were often viable, friendly and simply in need of somebody to help them get into a good new home. Dr. Kremer would at times
