The tiny-but-mighty nonprofit that’s been finding loving Forever Homes for thousands of pets for more than 35 years! We continue to love, comfort, heal and safeguard each and every dog & cat that finds its way through our doors, until the right family comes along to open their hearts. Maybe even yours. Love connections are only part of our purpose. Sure, matchmaking is fun, but getting it right takes so much more. See for yourself! Scan our current bunch of hopefuls right now. And when you set an appointment for an awwww-inspiring meet & greet, please consider volunteering - we can always use your help, and we’ll show you how! Posey Humane Society receives zero funding from local, state or federal agencies. Surprised? The entire responsibility for food, shelter, training and placement is borne by the dedicated volunteers who assist us, and from the financial support of pet lovers like you. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, your donation is tax-deductible, and goes directly toward helping us make pets safer, children happier, and Posey County a better place to live. Please give generously. You empower us, because we turn your donations directly into nourishment, warmth, wellness, medicine and care for our hopeful pets. The unconditional love, as always, is free.
Posey Humane Society aims to place animals in forever homes. It can be difficult for an animal to make a transition to a new home only to be brought back to the shelter, so we encourage you to consider your next pet carefully. Your new pet needs time to adjust. A rule of thumb is it takes about three weeks for a new pet to get used to their new home, the people in it and their new daily routine. It takes a new pet around three months to fully be comfortable and settle into their new life. We ask that you give these pets a chance and let them acclimate to their new surroundings before making the decision to return a pet. However, we do understand things don't always work out and if you find your new pet not to be a great fit, please reach out to us. We ask that you do not re-home your pet or surrender to any other shelter. Whether it's been a couple months or several years, we ask that you return the pet back to us! Stop in a visit our shelter to find the right pet for you! Also, come check out our new free roaming cat den with an outside Catio!
