Our Mission: The Pope Memorial SPCA is dedicated to caring for abandoned and homeless pets, protecting and advocating for pets in need, and promoting the humane treatment of all animals. Vision Statement: The Pope Memorial SPCA envisions our community to be a safe haven for animals, where the animal-human bond is nurtured and all animals are treated with compassion and respect. The shelter strives to place homeless animals in loving homes that are committed to their lifetime care. This goal is facilitated by medically and behaviorally evaluating all animals, providing necessary veterinary care and working closely with applicants to ensure a successful match. We do not euthanize animals for time or space, and many stay with us for weeks or even months waiting patiently to be adopted.
1. Complete the on-line application and tell us what kind of pet you are interested in. 2. Talk to an adoption counselor about what you are looking for in a new pet as well as review the details of your application related to your home environment. 3. Consent to a vet check -one of our staff will confirm that your current and/or previous animals receive basic veterinary care such as a rabies vaccination (required by law) basic vaccinations and are spayed/neutered. This is also a chance to review with your vet any unique medical requirements that your new pet may have. 4. Provide confirmation that you are allowed to own pets at your current residence. This can be accomplished by speaking to property management, rental company, or homeowner’s association - or providing written documentation. 5. Arrange for a meeting with your prospective new pet We encourage potential adopters to make appointments as we are limiting the number of visitors in our shelter and adopters are always given priority - and we have more flexibility with the days and times for appointments.
