Phoenix Landing is a non-profit parrot welfare organization that serves Maryland, D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, Northeast Florida, and neighboring areas through our parrot adoption and education programs. Our Objectives: Provide educational activities; Facilitate adoption for parrots, from parakeets to macaws, because most birds need a succession of good homes; Help veterinary students interested in avian medicine; Sponsor research and conservation for wild parrots; Advocate standards of care for birds; Build and maintain a sustainable organization; Ensure that adopted Phoenix Landing birds are physically and legally protected.
Apply - Complete and submit an Adoption/Foster Parrot Match Application. You may download the application as a Word document or PDF to send in via email or mail to the address listed in the application. After you submit an application, you will be connected with the Adoption Coordinator for your area, who will be your primary contact throughout the adoption process. Attend class - Attend a free, qualifying parrot care class. Upcoming events are listed on our events page. Those that count as part of the adoption process are noted as such. Home visit and interview - Your adoption coordinator will arrange for a volunteer to do a home visit with you, which includes an interview. Find a parrot match - Your adoption coordinator will work with you to identify a bird that may be a good match for your home. Foster - For most adoptable birds, we have a two month foster period to allow you determine whether a bird is a good match for your home before finalizing the adoption. If it doesn't work out with your foster, the bird must return to us, of course. You may continue to foster the bird until another match is found for the bird and/or for your home. Adopt - After the foster period, if you wish to adopt, you finalize the adoption and celebrate! This includes signing the adoption agreement and paying the adoption fee. Should the bird you adopt from Phoenix Landing ever need another home in the future, we require the bird return to Phoenix Landing's adoption program for that next home. This helps us to ensure all parrots in our care have a succession of good homes. Pay the adoption fee. You may pay the adoption fee by check or via e-payment. Once your adoption fee is received, you will be sent an adoption contract to sign and finalize. If finalizing completely electronically, the contract will come to you via DocuSign.
