Pet Rescue of Maryland is a donation driven, non-profit, volunteer group dedicated to saving the lives of dogs, cats, kittens and puppies. All of our animals come from shelters when euthanasia becomes inevitable. We foster these animals in our homes so that we can provide the most comfortable and humane environment. By being in a natural home setting we are able to assess each dog and cat and address any behavioral or medical needs the animal may have. The high success rate of our adoptions is due to our ability to understand the needs of our foster pets and match them with families that provide the best "forever homes".
DOGS - Our adoption process starts by meeting the animal and filling out our application. If we determine that our pet is a good fit for your home, we perform a home visit to make sure that everything stated on your application is in order (fences, etc). Next, we have your existing pets meet with the rescue pet at a neutral location to make sure they get along. We will take the necessary steps to make sure your pet has been fully vetted before finalizing the adoption. In the case of puppies who are not old enough to be altered at the time of the adoption, we provide that service when they are old enough. It is a requirement of Pet Rescue of Maryland that all of our animals are spayed or neutered. The total time between meeting the animal and taking your new pet home is approximately 2 weeks. Please note that at this time we are only able to place our pets in homes that are within 30-40 miles of Baltimore, MD. The adoption fee for our dogs is $350 and includes veterinary examination; testing for heartworm, ehrlichiosis, Lyme disease and anaplasmosis; spaying/neutering; vaccinations for rabies, distemper, lepto, bordetella; and de-worming. In addition, we microchip all dogs. CATS - Our adoptions process starts by filling out our application. Once the application is reviewed, we will make arrangements for you to meet the cat. If we determine that our pet is a good fit for your home, we will take the necessary steps to make sure the new pet has been fully vetted, including combo testing. Depending on the cat, a home visit may be requested. In the case of kittens who are not old enough to be altered at the time of the adoption, we provide that service when they are old enough. The dogs we foster come from many places. Some are turned in by their owners who can no longer care for them. Other dogs are found as stray dogs, or for one reason or another they wind up in dog shelters. There are far too many dogs without homes in the U.S. and the majority of them have to be put to sleep due to overcrowded conditions in shelters. We work to save as many American Eskimo dogs that
