People for Paws is a nonprofit organization located in the greater Shenandoah area. We are a volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing, fostering and finding homes for companion animals. People for Paws is comprised of a 7 member board and an increasiong number of local citizens and volunteers. We assist in the adoption and relocation of stray and pound animals from the Cities of Shenandoah and Essex as well as the surrounding rural area. Last year we rehomed over 125 dogs and cats. These animals were fully vetted including altering, specialized treatments and all shots. Since its inception in 2005 People for Paws has rehomed, or reunited with their owners, over 1500 companion animals. People for Paws has joined the Southwest Iowa Animal Coalition. This organization is a network of area rescues, County Shelters and Animal Food Banks.

The Mission of the SWIHS is to protect abandoned and homeless animals impounded by the City of Clarinda and, to a lesser extent, those living in the southwest Iowa area. SWIHS was founded in 1991 and incorporated as a non-profit, IRS 501(c) (3), volunteer organization dedicated to promoting the general welfare of animals and enhancing the bond between animals and humans.
