Peninsula Humane Society & Spca - Burlingame Pet Shelter

Peninsula Humane Society & Spca

The Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA (PHS/SPCA) is a local, private, non-profit charitable organization dedicated to animal welfare. Among our major programs, PHS/SPCA adopts fully 100% of the healthy dogs and cats in our care and also, through our charitably funded Hope Program, makes well and finds homes for thousands of animals who come to us sick, injured, or too young to survive without supportive care. PHS/SPCA is truly an open admission shelter, not only accepting many pet animals who might be refused at other shelters, but also taking care of injured and orphaned native wildlife from San Francisco through San Mateo and the northern half of Santa Clara County. Our work means more than 5,500 lives saved each year. PHS/SPCA is one of the few shelters in the entire state accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association and we’re a Platinum-level GuideStar Exchange participant.

Adoption Process

Visit our Lantos Center for Compassion in Burlingame to meet our adoptable animals. To meet adoptable animals in foster care, please follow the instructions in their profiles. Adopters must visit in person to adopt, and we do not ship our animals. Potential adopters are asked to complete our Adoption Profile, which serves as a conversation starter when you meet with a pet and Adoption Counselor. Our counselor will use this profile to discuss your past experiences with pets, your lifestyle, activities you might want to do with your new pet and the pet’s housing situation. And, of course, we will answer your questions. To make the best match possible, we suggest that you bring all family members to meet the new companion and bring your current dog(s) to meet a new dog. Of course, we give you “alone” time with the pet you are considering. Please note that adopters must be at least 18 years old, and PHS/SPCA reserves the right to deny adoptions. Our priorities are the health, safety and future well-being of the animals in our care and the health, safety and expectations of people hoping to find an animal companion.
