To adopt an animal from the Hertford County Animal Shelter please complete and submit the online adoption application. An adoption counselor will get in touch with you after the application is received. The adoption process includes: completing an Adoption Application and Contract; participating in a pre-adoption screening to make sure that the match is a good fit for both your family and the pet; presenting your photo ID (adopters must be 21 years old or older), and paying the adoption fee. The adoption fee includes spaying/neutering and vaccinations appropriate for the animal's age. PAWS of Hertford County reserves the right to decline any potential adopter based on established criteria, the interview with the adopter, observations or knowledge of the adopter, or a review of the formal Adoption Application and Contract. For approved adopters, the adoption fee for adult dogs (over one year) is $175.00, and puppies (less than one year) is $225.00, and includes the above mentioned vaccinations and medical treatments, as appropriate for their age. For approved adopters, the adoption fee for kittens (less than one year) is $110.00, and adult cats (over one year) is $90.00, and includes the above mentioned vaccinations and medical treatments, as appropriate for their age. For dogs and cats both, microchip registration for the chip that PAWS implanted, is a one time fee of $10.99, paid directly to the microchip company.
