PAWS was chartered as a non-profit organization in the state of Indiana in April 2001, and received tax exempt status under Section 501(c)3 of the IRS code in February 2002. Known simply as PAWS, the Partners for Animal Welfare Society of Dearborn County is an all-volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of unwanted and abandoned dogs and cats in our county. The animal shelter, called “PAWS of Dearborn County Humane Center,” is owned and operated by PAWS It is located in Lawrenceburg on Charles A. Liddle Drive. Under its agreement with the county, PAWS is responsible for animal care, while the county remains responsible for animal control. PAWS has been managed by a Board of Directors since inception. This Board oversees all policies for the Humane Center cooperatively with the center director to develop and maintain optimum health and well-being of the animals and promote high adoption rates.
