P.A.W.S. of Central Louisiana was founded in August 2012 by a Pineville local who was heartbroken after visiting animals at the shelter one day and then finding out on the next visit that they had all been euthanized. After growing support for her to begin a rescue, a Board of Directors was elected to oversee PAWS operations in October 2012. In March 2013, PAWS filed with the state of Louisiana as a non-profit organization. An entire year late on June 19, 2014, we became a 501c3 non-profit organization! Our primary goal at PAWS is to spay/neuter cats and dogs to prevent the needless killing of shelter animals. Our motto is "Rescue, Foster, Adopt" as we are on a mission to rescue, foster and adopt out abandoned, abused and surrendered animals of our area. We have "adopted" the Pineville Animal Shelter (PAS) to promote the adoption of their dogs and cats, while simultaneously raising funds to save and foster the PAS animals that have not been adopted before their scheduled euthanization day. We do, however, rescue abandoned dogs in different parishes, and we help in situations where owners can no longer provide care for their pets and their only alternative is to surrender them to the shelter. We believe ALL Parish Animals are Worth Saving, and we welcome your help in any way you can.

Our goal at the CAFA is to take great care of our rescue animals as they wait to find their “Furever Home”. CAFA focuses on finding good matches between dogs and families to ensure lifelong adoptions.
