We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Dover, Delaware, dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned animals, primarily cats and dogs, from high-kill shelters and owners who can no longer care for them. By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians and lower cost spay/neuter facilities, we provide pets with loving temporary care and find them well-matched, carefully screened forever homes. We also serve as a resource to our community by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter and good nutrition.
Adopting an animal is a large responsibility, and for us to be sure that you are ready for that undertaking we require all adopters to fill out an adoption application. Once we receive your application we start out by calling your references. Once all references are checked, we will notify you regarding the approval of your application. If your application is approved, we will schedule a time for you to meet the dog and a time for one of our volunteers to conduct a home visit. Because we want our dogs to go to the right forever home, it is not always guaranteed that you will be approved for the dog that you have applied for. In this case, we will work with you so that the right match for everyone involved is made. We spend a lot of time getting to know each dog so that we can place them with the appropriate family. All of our animals have been fully vetted. This includes all shots, spayed or neutered, heartworm tested and put on preventative, put on flea preventative, and microchipped. We charge an adoption fee of $250 for each dog, and $300 for puppies. Fees for senior dogs are based on the individual dog. These fees are carefully selected based on the costs involved in getting these dogs into our rescue and caring for them till their forever home is found. Each dog’s personality is assessed to ensure it goes to the right home environment. While we do not give any guarantee regarding an animals ability to fit in your home, we take care to analyze the dog’s reactions around children, cats, other dogs and other typical occurrences within the home, and will provide an honest assessment.
