Old Dog Home - Conyers Pet Shelter

Old Dog Home

There are a ton of unwanted old dogs out there. Through no fault of their own, they find themselves at local shelters, dumped in parking lots, or posted “free to good home” on that yard sale site. We believe that old dogs deserve better. Old Dog Home rescues old dogs (aged 7+) from Atlanta-area animal shelters and cares for all of their physical, emotional, and medical needs until we can find their “forever families”. We specialize in old dogs that are 30lbs and up, and primarily between the ages of 8 - 10 y/o, although we do occasionally have outliers available. We also share resources, low cost clinic information, and generally work to educate the public about caring for their old dogs, in order to keep those dogs safe, happy, and out of the shelter.

Adoption Process

Are you ready to start showering one of our old dogs with hugs, kisses, and embarrassing pajamas? You’ve come to the right place! Unlike some groups, we believe that old dogs are way more adaptable than most people realize and that they can be happy in a variety of different family types. We do require that at least one member of the adopting household be over 21 years of age - sorry, someone has to be a (responsible) adult! We will adopt temperament-appropriate old dogs to households with respectful children; not all dogs will qualify (and not all children either!). A fenced yard may be required on a case by case basis, depending on your housing situation and the needs of the specific old dog in question. Basically, in most cases, we will try to work with you; however, we do reserve the right to refuse any adoption, at any time, if we feel it would not be in the dog’s best interests. Our adoption fee is currently $200. All of our old dogs will be spayed / neutered, unless our vet determines that they are not physically healthy enough to undergo the procedure. They will be up to date on vaccines / heartworm preventative and will come with an initial supply of any medications they’re taking. If you’d like to proceed, please fill out the Adoption Application, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
