O.h.c.a.a.t. (one Homeless Critter At A Time)

One Homeless Critter at a Time (OHCAAT) began, as many non-profits do, as a loose collection of animal lovers. Initially, the focus was on Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) for adult feral/community cats as well as taming and adopting-out young kittens from those colonies. We just could not return those little ones to the hard life and conditions where their little lives began. A few caring people taking dirty, scared, little kittens into their homes and lives so that they might eventually find homes as cherished family members, living safely indoors and never having to worry about where their next meal would come from. In acknowledgment of our mission to help kitties, we chose the name OHCAAT: One Homeless Cat at a Time. Over time the scope of OHCAAT began to change. TNR is still a vital focus, but we realized that we can no longer claim to only rescue cats since too many dogs have made it through our program. So “Cat” became “Critter” and we are working to develop our identity to reflect this change.
