Ogemaw County Humane Society - West Branch Pet Shelter

The Ogemaw County Humane Society is dedicated to improving the lives of companion animals in our community and finding permanent and loving adoptive homes for the cats and dogs in our care. We provide a safe haven for animals in transition, serve as advocates for animals and their people, work to end animal overpopulation and educate the public about compassion and responsibility towards all animals.

Adoption Process

Adopt a Dog - Step 1. View our adoptable dogs and select the one, or ones, you might be interested in. Come in and meet the animals and see who might be a good fit for your home. While meeting with your potential new pet, talk with the staff about your needs, the needs of the animal, and how you will be caring for the pet. You can fill out an adoption application and place a hold on an animal while you get things ready for your pet to come home. Remember, adopters come in every day. Step 2. To complete the process, we will sign an adoption contract, which asks you to agree to certain things about your new family member and pay our adoption fees. Adoption fees include: vaccinations (may still require a booster) with records and spay/neuter surgery & heartworm check. We do offer home visits for all dogs over 6 months of age. You must leave a $50 deposit, and fill out our home visit agreement. Once you decide if this pet is a perfect fit for your home (usually 3 days is allotted), you may either bring them back for a refund if they do not work out, or you may then complete the adoption. Adopt a Cat - Step 1. View our adoptable cats and select the one, or ones, you might be interested in. Come in and meet the animals and see who might be a good fit for your home.
