Mitchell County Animal Rescue, Inc. - Spruce Pine Pet Shelter

Mitchell County Animal Rescue, Inc.

Mitchell County Animal Rescue's mission is to protect, rescue, and care for abandoned and unwanted animals; to promote the importance of spay/neuter in reducing the population of stray animals, to place animals in loving homes; and to educate young people in humane treatment of animals. Mitchell County Animal Rescue, Inc. (MCAR) is a not-for-profit humane organization, contracted by the county to operate the animal shelter. We receive support from the county but could not exist without funds from grants, individual donations, and fundraising events. We rely heavily upon donations from people like you so we can properly care for the stray and unwanted pets in our care and prepare them for adoption into loving homes. We do not euthanize healthy, adoptable animals; we do not euthanize for space. This year our euthanasia rate was at an all time low, thanks to the lifesaving work of our vets. We do not call ourselves a “no kill” shelter because that term has other associations with shelters that pick & choose the most adoptable animals. We accept all breeds, all ages, all conditions. Our live release rate is 91%. To be considered “no kill” the live release rate must be above 90%. We are very proud of this. We work closely with local vets and have created the Have Mercy Fund for shelter animals with special medical needs, as well as the Community Care Spay/Neuter Fund to make surgery affordable for shelter and community pets in need. Mitchell County residents need to call to schedule in unwanted pets. All adopted pets are spayed or neutered before leaving for their new homes. We also offer low-cost spay/neuter for trap/neuter/release (TNR) or free roaming cats.

Fifi’s Friends, Inc. aka Fifi’s Friends Rescue at Laughing Dog Farm is a small no kill dog rescue located in the remote mountains of NC (remote and mountains are key words here), and a 501(C)(3) Non Profit in Bakersville, North Carolina. We have LOTS of dogs in need, but not a lot of resources. We also try to help many different shelters as we can, as space allows.
