Misunderstood Mutts Rescue (MMR) is a registered 501(c)3 volunteer-based organization serving the greater Yakima Valley and Puget Sound region. We are dedicated to saving abandoned, free, and throwaway dogs in areas where abuse, neglect, and cruelty are prevalent. MMR places dogs in temporary foster homes where they are vetted, spayed/neutered (when medically sound), socialized, vaccinated, and any medical/behavioral issues are addressed. We strive to place the right dog with the right family and our process requires not only an application, but a home check, references, a meet & greet, and a representative from MMR performing proper introduction techniques. MMR was formed in October 2016 with the goal of rescuing dogs from our own backyards. Our ultimate goal is to be a catalyst for a world free of homeless, neglected, abused, and abandoned animals. The harder MMR works to achieve this goal, the greater the reduction in euthanization rates throughout Washington State.
Filling out an application is the first step in the adoption process. We strive to find the perfect family for each of our dogs to ensure they end up in their forever home, and for that reason we also require an application, a home check, references, and a meet & greet. You are not required to adopt the dog once your application is submitted, and submitting an application does not guarantee you will be able to adopt the dog you're applying for. If you've previously submitted an adoption application, it's not necessary to submit a new one! Please contact us directly with your name, the name of the dog you're interested in adopting, and a quick reminder that you've already filled out an application. Our adoption fee ranges from $200 to $495, which includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, deworming, microchip, and a behavioral assessment. A representative from MMR will be with you every step of the way to ensure the best transition possible for both the dogs and for you!
