Minnesota Greyhound Rescue - Inver Grove Heights Pet Shelter

Minnesota Greyhound Rescue

Minnesota Greyhound Rescue was founded in 2006 by Jen and Lloyd Komatsu with their “Founding Hounds” – Palu, Crisco, Tobey, Annie, Chester, Tanner and Abby the Schnauzer. They adopted their first greyhound, Palu, in April 2001 from Adopt a Greyhound Atlanta. Jen was AAGA’s Event Coordinator for four years before moving back to Minnesota and founding MNGR. They also have five “2-legged” children, all adopted from China. Needless to say, they live a busy lives, but they love Greyhounds and Sighthounds! MNGR can help you add a new member to your family from our location in the Twin Cities all while supporting the majority of the state of Minnesota.

Adoption Process

First, fill out an Application HERE! Then, based on our conversations with you, we’ll have you meet some available hounds that we think may be a good fit for you and your family. This meeting will take place at either our kennel in Inver Grove Heights, at a hound’s foster home, or at a Meet-N-Greet. We require that all persons in the household and all current resident dog/s be present at this meeting. It’s time for a home visit! One of our representatives will come to your home; no, you don’t have to bake us cookies and there will be no “white-glove” test. We are simply looking to see whether your home is realistically equipped to house a Sighthound. We’re looking for things like poisonous plants, super slippery floors, glass knick-knacks at tail height, and other things that could be hazardous to the hound. This is also a great time for you to ask EVERY question you can think of in preparation for you new family member. We prefer that all members of the family who will interact with your new hound be present. Just remember, many Sighthounds come from an environment that is NOTHING like your home, so there’s going to be many things that may be strange, frightening, and completely new for them such as TV’s, windows, mirrors, vacuums, and so many other things that we take for granted that they may have never seen or heard before. We also recommend reading up on a process known as the “2 Week Shutdown” by Stacie Sparks, you can find it HERE. The “Shut Down” is a great way to let your hound begin to adjust to their new home and for you to start setting some basic ground rules.
