Miami Pet Assistance Coalition (mpac) - Miami Pet Shelter

Miami Pet Assistance Coalition (mpac)

Founded in February 2013, MPAC strives to strategically end the problem of unwanted dogs and cats in Miami by preventing pets from winding up abandoned in the first place. MPAC promotes and facilitates responsible pet ownership (and rescues pets in emergency situations) in the low income areas along the Biscayne Blvd corridor (Downtown through North Miami), where it is common to see neglected dogs and cats roaming the streets, usually pregnant, malnourished, mangy, and all too often, injured or killed by cars. This is unfortunately the result of people allowing their unvaccinated pets to roam and wantonly breed. Many residents in these neighborhoods simply do not understand the importance of spaying/neutering, vaccinations, and keeping a dog on private property except when leashed. Pet overpopulation also is the result of rampant illegal backyard breeding for profit, leading to more dogs dumped at the local shelter. There are people in these low income neighborhoods, however, who do want to properly care for their pets by having them spayed/neutered and vaccinated. MPAC seeks out those good-hearted individuals and helps them get low cost/free veterinary services at one of our partner organizations. MPAC often subsidizes the cost of spay/neuter and vaccinations (when it is not free) and drives pets to and from vet appointments, as the owners often lack transportation.
