Every county in Virginia is required to maintain a facility for the temporary impoundment of companion animals that have been taken into custody by animal control officers or abandoned by their owners. In Madison, this facility is referred to as our Animal Shelter. The mission of the County's animal shelter is to serve as a suitable environment for the temporary confinement of animals, to provide humane care for those animals, and to find safe and loving homes for as many animals as possible.
