We are an independent, 501c3 organization made up of a group of volunteers who are dedicated to the rescue and re-homing of homeless Labrador Retrievers. We respond to requests for help from shelters by placing the dog into foster care. While in foster care, the dog receives whatever medical care it needs. This most often consists of spaying or neutering, updating on vaccinations, testing for heartworm and de-worming. We do not maintain a shelter, all of our dogs are in foster care. This allows the dog to maintain, or regain, its confidence as a household pet. We also assist private owners seeking new homes for Labs in their care, by listing their dog. We work to educate the public about the Labrador Retriever breed. All of the Labs we list have been temperament tested. We do not represent Labs with a history of bites, people aggression or serious dog aggression.
We very much appreciate your interest in adopting a Labrador in need through LELRR. Please understand that this is a process, and it may take some time to both review and process your application, as well as to potentially adopt one of our Labs. One of the reasons that we ask for an application fee ($25) is that it takes the limited resources and time of our Trustees and volunteers to thoroughly review and process your application. Please be patient and respectful of the volunteers that will work with you through this process. Our goal is to help you and the dog find a match that works for you both. No one is paid, it is a labor of love , and we do our best to respond to applications and inquiries in timely manner. If you have not heard from someone within two weeks of applying, please contact lelrr@bex.net for a status on your application. Because we are looking to get our dogs settled in forever homes that are a match for them as quickly as possible, priority is given to those applicants who specify interest in a specific dog, whose applications have all required information, or specify "foster to adopt" where the dog's name is listed. While we cannot guarantee that you will be able to adopt the specific lab that you are interested in, once your application has been approved, you will receive updates on labs available for adoption or in our "foster to adopt" program, along with specific contact information. Our job, and most especially the job of our fosters, is to place their dogs with the adopters that are the best fit for that specific Lab, and will offer them the best chance for success. If the Lab you originally applied for is adopted to someone else, please don't take it personally; and remember that we are always bringing in new Labs in need. One of them may very well be the perfect fit for your home. Your patience and understanding of our process is very much appreciated. Thank you!
