We are an independent, non-profit 501(c)3, non-government organization dedicated to the welfare of animals. Our vision is to Create Lifetime Friends through Adoption. KHS provides quality humane care, rehabilitation, adoption, and education for the good of the animals and their companions in our community. We practice the No-Kill Philosophy.
We have a new adoption process and we greatly appreciate your patience and understanding. We will call you when your questionnaire is next in our queue. Our staff is working very hard to get back to everyone as soon as possible. You must be at least 18 years of age to adopt. Take some time to view our available pets on our Adopt page. Once you have decided on the pet you are interested in meeting, please complete our Pre-Adoption Questionnaire. Questionnaires are reviewed by our animal care techs. If your questionnaire is approved, a KHS team member will be in touch to discuss the pet's needs and whether the pet listed will be a good fit for your lifestyle. (Please keep in mind that we are receiving multiple questionnaires per animal and we are working through them as efficiently as possible.) We are trying to get back to everyone within 24-72 hours. If it has been decided to move ahead with the meeting, an appointment will be scheduled. Adoption appointments are limited to one-hour, two family members, and face masks are required. Not all questionnaires will end up in adoption. Please note: We will be calling potential adopters ONCE. If you do not answer, we will move on to the next questionnaire. Even if we left a voice message, we will still move on to the next questionnaire. If after meeting with the animal you decide not to adopt that animal you will be unable to meet with others during that appointment. (We are trying to limit the amount of in-person contact with the staff.) If you are interested in a different animal you will need to submit another questionnaire. Other things to know...Pet Meets: We do require dog-to-dog meet and greets with any canine siblings. If you intend to adopt the day you come for your scheduled appointment, bring your dog/s with you. We Require Landlord Approval: If you rent, bring a copy of your rental agreement and proof of pet deposit. Have this information ready prior to coming to your scheduled appointment. We can contact your property manager by telephone but we will not hold the pet if we have to wait for a return call. Pet Hold Policy: If the pet you are going to adopt is not currently ‘Available’ for adoption, you can place a $25 non-refundable hold on that pet. As soon as the pet is made ‘Available’ you will be contacted to come in and finish up the adoption process. The $25 deposit will be applied to the adoption fee. Should you change your mind and decide not to complete the adoption, the $25 will be kept as a donation. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we find homes for pets as quickly as possible.
