Journey Home Animal Rescue - Grand Forks Pet Shelter

Journey Home Animal Rescue

Journey Home Animal Rescue, based in Grand Forks, North Dakota was founded in 2018. A group of dedicated animal advocates recognized the need for a foster based rescue in the area. We accept strays and owner surrenders from ND, MN, SD, and occasionally outside areas. They are in foster homes receiving medical care and learning to be a beloved family member until they are ready to start their new journey in their forever home. Since there are so many animals in need, we also work with other rescues to get animals to safety. North Dakota is overflowing with animals that desperately need our help. We transport 100s of animals a year to partnering rescues in MN, ND, & WI. Our foundation is built on a passion for helping animals and working together to make a better future for all.

Adoption Process

Step 1. Research and plan. Bringing a new pet into your family and home is extremely exciting decision. We want to help prepare you and the pet for success and make sure the decision is well thought out. Have a plan for what you will do in cases of an emergency, when you are going to vacation, and/or doing obedience classes with your newly adopted pet, etc. Step 2. Review and agree to the Adoption Requirements. We will carefully review your application, complete background checks, call veterinary references, landlords, and personal references. We contact your veterinary and personal references to ensure all current and/or deceased pets were properly taken care of, including current on all vaccinations and altered. We require all animals in the home to be either spayed or neutered and current on vaccinations. Journey Home Animal Rescue reserves the right to deny any applications that we deem unfit or unsuitable for the animal. This process can take approximately 10 days or more at times. Step 3. Complete an adoption application. If you have additional questions on specific pets, it is best to fill out an application as this will initiate communication. The adoption application is for you to tell us about yourself, the environment your pet will be living in, and your lifestyle. We would like to know as much as we can to help ensure a good match for a successful, lifelong relationship. Step 4. The applicant will be contacted for a home visit by an authorized Journey Home Animal Rescue representative. This is an informal opportunity for us to get to know you and answer additional questions you may have. Step 5. After the above steps are completed and processed, you will receive an email of approval or denial. An approved application means you can adopt from Journey Home. It does not always mean you will be adopting the animal applied for. Step 6. Adopt! After your application is approved we will arrange for you to meet the pet and if it's a good match, to adopt. Don't forget a collar, ID tag, leash, and kennel. We love hearing updates on Journey Home adopted pets and will always be available to help answer any questions, make training recommendations, and assist you in providing the forever loving home for your new pet.

  • Although I didn't keep the dog I picked I brought him back because; Was told he played rough. Never seen how rough or shown with the fosters personal dog who when I met the foster had her dog locked up in a room and I feel that for how rough the foster said he was she should have offered to let me see with her own dog. Instead of just waiting 5 days in my care and spending 278. Along with the cost of the most expensive dog food and the biggest kennel I could find for potential new dog. In total spent over 500 close to 600 all together after driving 2 hours to get him and again to bring him back. Not even offered to meet half way or to even see about another dog.. very disappointed as it was the first time I had decided to go through a rescue to get my next family member. I guess I learned my lesson and never again. The pet shelters in my area offer a trail.. not here! Beware
