The Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center provides residents of Iowa City, Coralville, University Heights, the University of Iowa, and unincorporated Johnson County with a variety of animal-related services including: Animal Adoptions: Caring for and finding aadoptive homes for relinquished, rescued, or stray animals. Lost and Found Pets: Sharing information on lost and/or found pets and providing shelter until pets are reunited with their owners. Licensing, Permits, and Dog Park Tags: Issuing licenses, tags, and/or permits for pets; urban chickens; use of the city dog parks; businesses (pet stores, groomers, kennels, etc.); and special events involving animals. Investigations, Complaints, and Emergencies: Stray animal pick-up; investigations of animal neglect and cruelty; barking dog complaints; disaster response; emergency housing for animals; reporting and investigation
Generally, applications take at minimum 24 hours to process. Once the staff has approved your application to adopt, we will call you and set up an appointment to come in and meet your potential new family member. A second appointment can be made during this visit to arrange pick up.
