The Humane Society of Pagosa Springs is a private, nonprofit organization serving Archuleta County. Our mission is to provide a safe haven for animals in need, to promote adoptions, to reunite lost animals with their owners and to humanely reduce pet overpopulation through community education and aggressive spay/neuter programs. The Humane Society operates the Animal Shelter currently located at 465 Cloman Blvd. in West Pagosa Springs and the Thrift Store in downtown Pagosa Springs.
Before adopting a pet, you will need to fill out a Pre-Adoption Questionnaire. The purpose of the questionnaire is to help us match your needs with the pets that are available. To simplify the process, you can print out the Pre-Adoption Questionnaire, complete it and bring it with you when you go to the Humane Society to look at pets. Alternatively, you may send an email to adoptionapps@humanesociety.biz and in return, you will get an email form to fill out and reply to which will then be processed. When you visit the Humane Society, our staff will show you the animals available and fill you in on the history and needs of each animal. You can ask the staff questions about house training, scratching, veterinary care, how to introduce a new pet to other pets and anything else you can think of. In order to complete the adoption, you will be asked to provide three personal references and contact information of your veterinarian. Home Visit is required for anyone adopting within Archuleta County. A Home Visit is our way of helping you to a successful "Pets for Life" adoption. If you are a renter we will need to verify with your landlord before adoption can be completed. To finalize the adoption, you will be asked to sign an adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. If your new pet has not yet been spayed or neutered, you will not be able to take it home immediately.
