The Humane Society of Nelson County is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation which was formed in 1994. This organization cares for animals in Adoption/Volunteer Building during their stay at the shelter, and funds and oversees the Adoptions Program at the Shelter. The Humane Society also provides spay/neuter for shelter animals and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries for low income pet owners, offers behavioral modification and training information to help keep pets in their homes, offers humane education materials and visits to local schools, and pet therapy visits to nursing homes.
