For more than 120 years, the Humane Society of Huron Valley has been serving the community, saving animals and helping people. HSHV is still the only animal shelter in Washtenaw County, taking in all types of unwanted, injured, lost, stray, abandoned, and abused animals. Today, we help over 14,000 animals and their people every year. HSHV is governed by a board of directors and is supported by generous individual and corporate donors.
First, you’ll complete an application. You can do this when you arrive, or save time by bringing a completed one with you. An application is required to visit an animal. Then, submit your application to our adoptions front desk, and you’ll receive a visitation pass good for 3 months. While not required, after visiting with an animal, you may place a hold on him/her. Holds are limited to one 24-hour hold per family. After you’ve found your match, we’ll complete an adoption meeting, when we’ll help you prepare for your new friend. While there are exceptions, adoptions are typically same day. Please allow at least an hour if you plan on adopting, and bring your driver’s license or other government-issued ID with proof of address, a copy of your lease (if it applies) and vaccination records for your current pets. Please note: Visitation passes are accepted up until 15 minutes prior to closing. And adoptions at HSHV are first come, first served, first approved!
