The Humane Society of Greenwood is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit animal welfare agency comprised of staff and volunteers. The HSOG is not funded by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), ASPCA, or any other national animal welfare agency. The HSOG is supported by donations and funding from Greenwood County to manage the Greenwood County Animal Shelter. Under contract with Greenwood County, the Humane Society of Greenwood’s animal care professionals operate the Greenwood County Animal Shelter. HSOG staff promote adoptions of shelter animals at the Adoption Center and at off-site adoption events, as well as work strategically with out-of-area rescue groups who adopt animals from the Shelter and re-home in areas outside Greenwood. The HSOG offers low-cost spay/neuter services to the greater Greenwood, SC area. Preventing unwanted litters is the most effective way of reducing euthanasia at the animal shelter. We coordinate and participate in community outreach through: 1) presentations to schools and civic organizations, 2) media (HSOG website, Facebook, local news outlets, radio), and 3) fund raising events.
All adoptions are by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, please call (864) 223-2498. We recommend taking the meet your match survey and choosing a few animals to meet before scheduling your appointment. You will need to bring a driver’s license or photo ID with you to the Adoption Center, located at 2820 Airport Road in Greenwood, SC. For home renters, please be mindful of any lease or landlord restrictions that may apply to pet ownership. All adoption appointments are scheduled on a first come, first served basis. We do not place any animals on hold. The Humane Society of Greenwood is the perfect place to find dogs and cats of every type, size, age, and personality - all waiting for a loving home. If you prefer a particular breed that isn’t currently available at a shelter, you may visit an online adoption website to view available shelter and rescue animals in your area such as Petango or Adopt-A-Pet.
