Adoption Process

We are grateful that you are choosing dog rescue and thank you for considering Helping Paws Maine as your rescue partner. We have included detailed information about our adoption process, requirements, and fees on this Page, which we encourage you to read in its entirety before completing the adoption application. Before submitting an application, please make your references (landlord, personal, and veterinary) aware that you are looking to adopt a rescue pup and that we will be calling for a reference. Applications and inquiries from approved applicants are processed in the order received. When an application is received, one of our volunteers will acknowledge your application before it is sent to another volunteer for processing. Depending on volunteer availability, it can take anywhere between 2-7 days to complete the processing of your application. Sending multiple emails asking for an update on your application slows our ability to process it. We understand it's exciting to think about bringing a new rescue pup/dog into your family, but we are a 100% volunteer organization doing the best we can! Once your application has been approved, one of our volunteers will connect you with the foster home to schedule the meet & greet to see if the rescue pup is a match. It is up to the adopter to travel to the foster home or a mutually agreed to spot - we do not have the resources to deliver our rescue pups to approved adopters.
