Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill animal shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization. We rescue and take creatures who are lost, afraid, hungry or ill and give them a warm, soft bed, good food, medical care and most of all, love.
We have an application process. The application asks information that helps us determine whether the home would be the right one for that animal. Note: Due to a high volume of adoption applications being received, please allow a full 48 hours for a response to your application. If the application is found to be a good match with a dog or cat for adoption, then we will schedule a home visit by one of our volunteers in your area. Since we are the rare shelter that does long distance adoptions, we have set very high criteria for choosing the right homes for our animals. We are exceptionally careful. We always have the best interest of the animals in mind. Very few dogs do well without a securely-fenced yard, and we rarely ever place a dog without a fenced yard. It is our job to protect and ensure the happiest, safest possible future for all of the dogs who come through our doors. Each animal is precious to us and we take our responsibilities to them very seriously. Applicants must be head of household or co-head of household and 21 years of age or older. For Local Adoptions - Once your adoption application is fully approved we will reach out to schedule a time to visit the shelter and meet your new best friend. Adoption appointment hours are 10 am to 2 pm every day except Wednesdays. Our adoption fee is $400 for dogs and $75 for cats. The adoption fee helps offset the cost of having the dog altered, vaccinated, tested for heartworms, microchipped and provided any other medical care necessary. It costs far more than $400 dollars to provide all the medical care that the dogs require before they are adopted. We do send dogs on airplanes to new homes if there are safe flights. The cost of the flight and travel crate is additional to the adoption fee. The cost varies depending upon the size of the dog, the airline, and the the method of shipping. If there is ever a problem with any dog adopted from us, whatever the reason, we take the dog back. We make a lifetime commitment to the dogs that we rescue, we will either find them another home or they will live with us as Sanctuary Sweethearts. You cannot give the dog to anyone else for any reason. You need to be certain that you understand and agree with this requirement.
