After placing adoptable dogs and cats into homes through Mapleview Animal Hospital since 1994, Dr. Jim decided that it made more sense to begin a rescue group separate from the hospital. The 501(c)3 status was granted in 2008 and the rescue received a name: Headin' Home Pet Rescue. Headin' Home Pet Rescue typically takes in dogs, puppies, cats and kittens. Bunnies and guinea pigs also sometimes come to the rescue from a variety of situations. We find ways to support animals that come from other shelters that are at full capacity, as well as those whose families can no longer care for them
Adoption Process for Dogs - Potential adopters must first complete our adoption application. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Please note we are a volunteer run organization so it can take us up to 72 hours to begin to process applications. If you are completing an adoption application, please let your current veterinarian know that we will be calling to check your pet's history. Many veterinarians will not release information without your consent, so this will save us time in the application process. Once an application is received, the screening process begins. Upon approval of the application, we will contact you to set up a meet-and-greet visit with the dog you are interested in. After the first meet-and-greet, the decision will be made to either do a foster-to-adopt program or multiple visits can be made thereafter to ensure the best fit for both the applicant and the dog. All adoptions take place in Holland at our facility Adoption Process for Cats - Our cats and kittens also require an application. We require that adopters be over 18 years old as well as that our cats be indoor only cats. Once you have an approved application on file we can set up a time for you to come out and meet our adoptable cats and kittens. Cats and kittens can go to their new fur-ever home the same day they are adopted, but we do have a contract that must be filled out. Applicants for all pets must be above the age of 18. If you rent, we do need permission from land lords that you are allowed to have a pet where you live. Adoption fees are non-refundable, payable by cash or check only.
