Hart County Humane Society - Hartwell Pet Shelter

Hart County Humane Society

The Hart County Humane Society works in conjunction with the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter to end the need to euthanize healthy animals due to lack of space or time. This takes a village of volunteers! In fact, we are an all volunteer, all donation, 501(c) 3 non-profit animal rescue organization. We receive no funding from taxes or other sources. We passionately work every day to end the euthanizing of adoptable shelter animals. Animals who are turned in to the Animal Shelter but are not adopted or rescued by other organizations come to us. We then work with our amazing local veterinarians to ensure the animal is healthy, provide care if they are not, microchip, and spay/neuter the animal in preparation for their new family.

Adoption Process

The Hart County Humane Society is a volunteer rescue organization. We use foster homes to house our rescues and we do not have an open door facility with a staff. Meet and greets are arranged by appointment once an application is approved. Our dogs and cats are adopted to be family companions that live in the home with their family. While some dogs will require fencing, not all do. Cats are adopted to be inside always and adopters are not allowed to declaw them. Veterinarian references are checked as part of our adoption screening process. If you are interested in adopting, please note that we prefer to adopt within a 250 mile radius of Hartwell, GA.
