The Harrison County Humane Society strives to provide a friendly, clean and fun environment for the people and pets that we serve.
If you see a pet on our website that you are interested in meeting, please get in touch with us regarding its availability. Often, an adoptable pet, that has also been posted on Facebook, has a waiting list or may be on a Home Visit. To begin the process, please call 712-644-3003 or email hchsadmin@harrisonhumane.org. If you are on Facebook, you can also message us on our page (sometimes that is the quickest way to receive a response). Once you have made an appointment to meet an adoptable pet, you will come to the shelter to visit. If you are meeting a dog and have a resident dog, we recommend that you bring your resident dog along for a meet and greet in the park. If, after chatting with the volunteer and meeting the pet, we all agree that it would be a good fit (including the pet’s opinion!), you have two options: 1) You may choose to adopt outright. Adoption fees are: $30 for adult cats, $50 for kittens, $100 for adult dogs, $150 for puppies and high profile pets. 2) You may choose to take the pet home for a Home Visit for up to a week to ensure that it remains a good fit. You will receive a copy of all vet records (including vaccination records), Rabies tag, verification of spay or neuter, microchip tag, and other information upon adoption. We require that if you are unable to continue to care for the pet you have adopted, that you contact HCHS first before rehoming or making any other decisions.
