Great Northwest German Shepherd Rescue focuses primarily on saving German Shepherds and Shepherd mixes, but also rescues other large breed dogs in need. We assist homeless animals in a variety of ways by directly rescuing or collaborating with other 501(c)(3) rescues so we can remove these dogs from "the pound" or other poor-living environments. We then place these dogs in safe, temporary living quarters or foster homes while they await adoption and re-location to their new, permanent homes. We are a volunteer-based organization run by people who have a tremendous love for dogs and a strong commitment to provide a better life for these "inconvenient" pets. Our jobs include interfacing with shelters and other rescues, fostering the dogs while they await permanent placement, transporting the dogs to and from fosters and veterinarian clinics, providing socialization and training for the dogs, reviewing applications and adoption contracts, conducting home visits and telephone interviews, holding fund-raising events, and managing media and website content. Our organization is comprised of and responds to people from all walks of life: men, women, married, single, working or retired individuals. To ensure successful adoptions, it is of utmost importance that we thoroughly review each application in order to insure the best match for both the dog and the prospective new owner. We try to get to know you and every dog in order to help you find each other and the future joy you will ultimately share for years to come. Matchmaking is a time demanding process that requires patience. It is our dream to find approved applicants their new fur friend and family member. It is our hope that you, in turn, are able to help a homeless and once-unloved dog have his or her dreams of finding a loving forever family come true.
